Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

Safe, gentle chiropractic care designed for the changing needs of pregnancy — comfort, mobility, and optimal positioning.

Pregnancy is a profound time of change—your body shifts to accommodate a growing baby, hormones surge, and your center of gravity shifts dramatically. Back pain, hip discomfort, pelvic strain, and sleep disruption are common. At CoreHealth Wellness Center in Dallas, we offer safe, specially adapted chiropractic care designed specifically for pregnant women. Many expectant mothers find that regular care improves comfort and prepares their body for labor.

How pregnancy changes your body

Over nine months, your body produces relaxin—a hormone that loosens ligaments to allow the pelvis to expand. Your weight increases (a healthy 25–35 pounds) concentrated in your belly, shifting your center of gravity forward. Your posture changes to accommodate the baby. Your lower back curves more. Your pelvis widens and rotates. Your rib cage expands. These changes are natural and necessary, but they stress the spine, hips, pelvis, and surrounding muscles. Without support, these stresses compound, leading to pain and dysfunction.

Common pregnancy-related pain

Lower-back pain is the most frequent complaint—caused by the forward weight shift, increased curve in the lumbar spine, and hormonal loosening of supporting ligaments. Hip pain, often on one side, comes from the pelvis rotating and new muscle demands. Pelvic pain (symphysis pubis dysfunction) happens when the joint at the front of the pelvis becomes strained. Rib pain can occur as the rib cage expands. Sleep disruption is common as positions that once felt comfortable no longer work. Sciatica (pain down the leg) can develop from pelvic changes irritating the sciatic nerve.

How chiropractic care helps in pregnancy

Adjustments—performed gently and specifically for pregnancy—restore proper alignment of the pelvis, lower back, and hips. This reduces pain, improves mobility, and optimizes the space available for the baby. Soft-tissue work releases muscles overworking to stabilize the shifted spine. Specific stretches and exercises target the muscles being stretched and stressed by pregnancy. Ergonomic advice helps you move safely and sit comfortably. The combined effect: reduced pain, better sleep, improved posture, and a body better prepared for labor.

Pregnancy adjustments are different

We don't use traditional adjustment techniques during pregnancy. Instead, we use gentler, lower-force methods: drop-table adjustments (the table drops slightly to assist), light manual adjustments, and sustained mobilization (gentle stretching without quick impulse). Special pregnancy pillows and tables with belly cutouts let you lie comfortably without pressure on your abdomen. Everything is designed to be gentle and safe for both you and your baby.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy

Yes. When performed by a chiropractor experienced in prenatal care, chiropractic is safe throughout all three trimesters. No adjustments force the uterus or apply pressure to the abdomen. The gentle techniques used in pregnancy care won't harm the baby or increase miscarriage risk. In fact, research shows that regular chiropractic care during pregnancy is associated with reduced labor time and decreased need for intervention.

Timeline and frequency

Many women start care in the first or second trimester, though starting later is fine. Initial visits might be weekly or biweekly to address acute pain and establish proper alignment. As pregnancy progresses, maintenance visits (every 2–3 weeks) keep the pelvis and spine aligned and muscles balanced. Frequency increases in the final weeks leading up to labor as the baby drops into the pelvis. We adjust frequency based on how you're feeling.

Benefits of pregnancy chiropractic care

Reduced or eliminated back, hip, and pelvic pain; better sleep and rest; improved posture and comfort; faster movement and easier activity; reduced ligament strain from better alignment; optimal positioning of the baby; potentially shorter, easier labor; and reduced likelihood of needing labor interventions. Many women report feeling more confident in their body's ability to handle pregnancy and labor.
