Prenatal Chiropractic Adjustment
Gentle, modified techniques designed specifically for pregnancy—no force, no pressure on the abdomen.
Prenatal chiropractic adjustments are fundamentally different from standard chiropractic care. They're specifically designed to be safe and effective for the pregnant body—addressing pain and dysfunction without any risk to you or your baby. At CoreHealth Wellness Center in Dallas, we have specialized training and equipment to provide prenatal care that's both gentle and highly effective.
Why standard adjustments don't work during pregnancy
Traditional chiropractic adjustments use quick, high-velocity force to restore joint motion. During pregnancy, this force is unnecessary and potentially uncomfortable. Your hormones have already loosened your ligaments. Your body is naturally shifting and adapting. Standard techniques could be jarring or create tension that doesn't serve pregnancy. Prenatal adjustments use a completely different approach: lower force, gentler motion, and specific hand placement designed for a pregnant body.
How prenatal adjustments work
We use drop-table adjustments—the table has a section that drops slightly, gently assisting the adjustment without forceful thrust. We use sustained mobilization—gentle, continuous pressure and stretching that coaxes the joint into better position rather than forcing it. We use light manual adjustments where we control every millimeter of movement, with no sudden impulses. Every technique is designed to be comfortable for you and safe for your baby. Your belly is never compressed or pressured.
Specialized pregnancy equipment
We have adjusting tables with a belly cutout so you can lie face-down without any pressure on your abdomen. Pregnancy pillows cradle your body for comfort. These aren't luxuries—they're essential for safe, effective prenatal care. You're never contorted or compressed. You're supported and comfortable throughout.
What to expect during a prenatal adjustment
You'll lie on the pregnancy table, either face-down (belly in the cutout), on your side, or sitting, depending on what we're treating. The adjustment feels gentle and controlled—no sudden movements, no force. You might hear or feel a slight release, similar to cracking your knuckles, but it's always painless. Most women find prenatal adjustments deeply relaxing. After the adjustment, your pain usually decreases immediately, your pelvis feels more balanced, and your movement is easier.
Adjustments by trimester
First trimester: focus is on establishing proper alignment, addressing early nausea and postural changes, and setting the foundation for healthy pregnancy. Second trimester: adjustments target the increasing forward weight shift, hip and pelvic strain, and lower-back pain that peaks in this phase. Third trimester: final adjustments optimize pelvic alignment as the baby drops, release tension in the round ligaments and muscles straining to support the belly, and prepare the pelvis and body for labor.
Frequency and timeline
Initial care might be weekly to address acute pain and establish alignment. As pregnancy progresses, maintenance visits every 2–3 weeks keep everything balanced. Many women increase frequency in the final month leading up to labor. Overall, prenatal care usually involves 15–25 visits throughout the 9-month pregnancy, though frequency varies based on pain level and individual needs.
Benefits specific to prenatal adjustments
Reduced pain and discomfort throughout pregnancy; improved posture and balance as your center of gravity shifts; reduced stress on ligaments and joints; better sleep and rest; optimized pelvic alignment, which can lead to shorter, easier labor; reduced likelihood of needing labor interventions; and preparation of your body for the physical demands of childbirth.
